RCPSG International Postgraduate Diploma in Expedition and Wilderness Medicine

The RCPSG International Postgraduate Diploma in Expedition and Wilderness Medicine is a must for any healthcare professional seeking to participate in, or lead expeditions in extreme and challenging environments. Structured in conjunction with the Oxford Handbook of Expedition and Wilderness Medicine, the Diploma* will offer students the chance to gain a fully recognised qualification, whilst also having the opportunity to travel to challenging locations both in the UK and Morocco, covering topics such as:

  • Infectious disease, travel medicine and global health (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, UK)
  • Tropical and Maritime (Dartington Hall, Devon, UK)
  • Cold and mountainous environments (Glenmore Lodge, Aviemore, UK)
  • High altitude and desert (Aroumd and surrounding area, Morocco)

*credit rated at Diploma SCQF level through Glasgow Caledonian University

The course is aimed at healthcare professionals with a first or second-class UK Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate subject, or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard.

Those completing the course will be eligible to join the College as a Member of the Faculty of Travel Medicine (MFTM) and also to progress on to complete a Masters qualification, achieving an MSc Advanced Practice (Expedition and Wilderness Medicine).

Progression to MSc Advanced Practice (Expedition and Wilderness Medicine)

On successful completion of the Postgraduate Diploma in Expedition and Wilderness Medicine, diplomates will be eligible to progress on to a final course of study, offered by Glasgow Caledonian University, which will lead to the award of MSc Advanced Practice (Expedition and Wilderness Medicine). This is a 60-credit dissertation module, completed over two trimesters in a six-month period. The dissertation would build on the work begun during your Postgraduate Diploma.
