T he Faculty of Medical Leadership and management (FMLM) is holding a series of conferences across the UK this autumn which promise to be essential meetings for any doctor involved with leadership and management.

Physician to Musician

Senior Fellow of the College, Chris Clark, will present a show on the "Great American Songbook" in Edinburgh from 3-7 August. The show will present a journey through the Great American songbook (Sinatra, Bennett, and more) with vocals, a piano trio and humorous anecdotes.

Musical Notes

The College presents an evening of fine dining, wonderful music and excellent company. The evening incorporates a drinks reception, two course meal and performances by musicians from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Strathclyde alumna honoured with the Tom Gibson Memorial Award

The Tom Gibson Memorial Award was established by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, the British Association of Plastic Surgeons and the Universities of Strathclyde and Glasgow to commemorate Professor Tom Gibson.

Guidance for clinicians during forthcoming industrial action

The recent announcement by the BMA that it has given notice of junior doctors' industrial action on 12 Jan, 26 Jan and 10 Feb means that, if all three dates go ahead, this will be the first time in history that an all-out strike has happened in the NHS.

Dr Dunn invested as President

Dr Frank Dunn FRCP(Glasg) was invested as President of the College at the AGM on 7 December 2012. Dr Dunn has been involved with the College for many years and his progression to the presidency was welcomed by all on the College Council.

The award aims to recognise outstanding accomplishment and / or outstanding potential of young medics / scientists below the age of 40, who are employed by, or associated closely with, the Universities of Glasgow or Strathclyde.
