Michael Harrison Blount
Manchester Regional Advisor for Podiatric Medicine
Michael qualified in 2000 with a Bsc (Hons) degree in Podiatry from the University of Wales Institute Cardiff. He began his career working for an NHS Trust in South Wales, followed by work as a specialist practitioner at the Primary Care Trust, in his home town of Stoke on Trent.
He had the opportunity to work in all fields of podiatry but specifically in mentoring students and in the care of the high-risk foot. Michael completed his Master's degree in Medical Education at Staffordshire University and a Post Graduate Diploma focusing on clinical diabetology at the University of Salford. Michael also completed an ambulance service emergency medical responders course in 2004, responding to treble nine calls as a voluntary community first responder until 2012 and continues to act as a life support instructor. More recently Michael was amongst the first group of podiatrists to be awarded Chartered Scientist status by the science council UK.
Since 2006 Michael has been employed as a lecturer at the University of Salford. He is currently the undergraduate module leader for applied clinical medicine, pre hospital life support, minor surgery and local anaesthesia. Michael also leads Masters level postgraduate modules in lower limb health disease and rehabilitation, and Clinical competencies in the management of the high-risk foot.
Using his experience in teaching and in management of the high-risk foot Michael is currently reading for his PhD, which has afforded him the opportunity to work in the UK and abroad exploring methods to facilitate change, develop clinical practice and embed evidence based practice around foot health assessment. He has published in peer reviewed journals and has been an invited speaker and chair at national and regional conferences.
Michael bridges the research practice gap by continuing to practice podiatry in a practice in Nantwich. In his free time Michael enjoys a range of outdoor adventure sports and coaches under 7's rugby.Email
