London Regional Advisor for Physicians
Abhijit is a Consultant Neurologist in the NHS based at the Queen's Hospital and leads the local service on neuroinflammation and multiple sclerosis. He moved to Greater London from Glasgow in 2005 where he had completed his specialist training and post-doctoral clinical research. He previously worked as a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Neurosciences and Honorary Consultant Neurologist in the Institute of Neurological Sciences and Glasgow University.
Abhijit is an Educational Supervisor in the London Deanery and he has been supervising the core and specialist medical trainees (CMT and ST) in neurology for several years. He is also the local host of the Department-to-Department training programme of the European Federation of Neurological Societies (EFNS). He is a member of the specialty Question Writing Group of the Royal Colleges of Physicians since 2007 for knowledge based assessment of the trainees. He has contributed to several treatment guidelines as a member of the EFNS Task Force on infectious diseases. In 2013, he was appointed as a member of the Commissioning Reference Group (CRG) for specialist commissioning of neurology service in NHS England.
Abhijit wishes to see more collaborative research between the North and the South, particularly in the epidemiology, organisation and delivery of care in common neurological disorders. He takes an active interest in medical research and has been a Principal Investigator in several Phase 2, 3 and 4 clinical trials. He is a keen reader and travels frequently to Glasgow where his family still lives.Email
