Biography

James has been providing expedition and travel health advice and training to individuals, universities, companies and charities for over a decade. He trained as a nurse in Bristol, where he worked for 10 years before returning to his home county, Devon. He has post-graduate diplomas in Travel Medicine and Tropical Nursing and a degree in Emergency Care, along with a range of outdoor qualifications.
His background has led him into a very practical travel and expedition domain, and he provides medical cover for a number of expeditions across the globe, from Antarctic islands through to the deserts of Sudan.
James is a Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow) where he teaches on the Diploma, and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, where he resides as a member of the Medical Cell.
James writes for a number of journals and is an author and co-editor of the Oxford Handbook of Expedition and Wilderness Medicine, and co-author of 'Expedition Medicine' in Auerbach's definitive textbook 'Wilderness Medicine'.
