Biography
Roddy Neilson graduated in medicine from Glasgow University in 1985 and is a Consultant Haematologist with a special interest in coagulation haematology and thrombosis at the Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert. He is an examiner for MRCP(UK) and also for the FRCPath in Haematology, and is an honorary clinical senior lecturer in medicine at Glasgow University.
In addition to his NHS work he is a Colonel in the Army Reserve and was commanding officer of 205 (Scottish) Field Hospital between 2011 and 2014. He has deployed on operations to Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan and is currently the Consultant Adviser in Haematology to the Army. He is the Scottish Colleges representative on the UK Intercollegiate Subcommittee on Haematology.
In the College he has served as an Ordinary Councillor and chairs the Fellowship Committee. From 2015 to 2017 he was the International Director for the College.
