Biography

After qualifying in Christmas 1989 from Dundee University I entered general dental practice initially as an associate and subsequently as a principal. I then returned to Dundee University where I helped to run one of the first major dental clinical trials to follow GCP (Good Clinical Practice). I was awarded my PhD in 1999 on the subject of “magnification and eyesight in dentistry”. Upon completion of specialist training in restorative dentistry I became a Consultant in restorative dentistry in 2006 working both at Dundee University and NHS Education for Scotland. In 2014 I went full-time in Dundee with responsibility for taught postgraduate programmes before moving to Glasgow in 2017 to my current role with the BDS undergraduate programme.

I have examined for the College for many years. In 2017 I was appointed the interim Director of the Dental Membership and Global Engagement Board and elected onto Dental Council (now the Dental Executive) in 2018. I am now looking forward to working closely with the Office Bearers and staff at the College as Honorary Dental Secretary.
