Director of the Dental Membership and Global Engagement
Ms Lynnsey Crane graduated from the University of Glasgow Dental School in 2001 and then entered a 2 year General Professional Training programme which incorporated a year in general practice and rotations in both the community and hospital dental services. Following this she was appointed to the Glasgow Dental Hospital SHO rotation in 2003 and worked in oral surgery, prosthodontics and conservation, as well as doing a 6 month job in the Southern General Hospital Maxillofacial Surgery Unit. During this time she successfully passed her MFDS examination at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
She was appointed to a 5 year specialty training programme in Restorative Dentistry in 2004 which included training in the sub-specialties of endodontics, prosthodontics and periodontology. She passed the ISFE examination in Restorative Dentistry in 2009 thereby becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
During her time as a trainee, Ms Lynnsey Crane had the opportunity to become involved in some College Committees including Dental Council, and the College Trainees’ Committee. Through this involvement, she was fortunate enough to be accepted into the first cohort of students to do the MSc in Clinical Leadership, which was a joint venture between the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the University of Glasgow Business School. She was awarded this degree with commendation in 2010. She believe the support, and experience gained during this time has been invaluable for my current College role as Director of DMGEB
Since 2010, she has been working as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Glasgow Dental Hospital, and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at the University of Glasgow. Her main areas of clinical practice are endodontics, periodontology, and the multi-disciplinary management of hypodontia patients. She contributes to clinical periodontology teaching of 4th and 5th year undergraduate dental students. She also is clinical lead to the BSc Oral Health Sciences programme (Glasgow Caledonian University) which trains our Dental Hygienists and Therapists of the future.
