Armed with her degree in psychology and after working in residential care for individuals with disabilities, Helen studied dentistry in Glasgow, graduating in 1996. She has worked in general dental practice, hospital and community services in Scotland and the US. She was appointed as NHS Consultant in Special Care Dentistry in Greater Glasgow and Clyde in 2010. Her clinical work focuses on the provision of oral healthcare to adults with complex needs including those with learning disabilities and medically compromising conditions.
For the College, Helen has been an examiner for the MFDS examination in its evolving forms and also teaches on the MFDS Part 2 preparatory course. She was a member of the steering group establishing the Tricollegiate Membership in Special Care Dentistry, served as a Board Member from 2011 to 2016 and continues to serve as an examiner. She was the College representative on the SAC in Special Care Dentistry from 2013 – 2018. Helen was an Ordinary Member of Dental Council from 2012 – 2016 and since 2016, has been the Honorary Secretary to the Dental Faculty.
