Dr U Vasudeva Rao (known as Vasu Rao) is a graduate of Kasturba Medical College Manipal / Mangalore.
After postgraduate training in general surgery he briefly worked as Asst Professor in the Department of Surgery before proceeding to UK in 1989. He obtained his fellowship from Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow in 1982 and thereafter gained experience in various surgical specialities including vascular surgery.
He returned to India in 1991 and was appointed as consultant in Gen & Vascular surgery at Manipal Hospital Bangalore. Manipal Hospital is a corporate hospital run by the renowned Manipal Education & Medical group which has many teaching institutions under its umbrella. Dr Rao has been quite active in academic and association activities.
He is Adjunct Professor of Manipal University and was the dean of Kathmandu University PG program at Manipal Hospital he was the member of the Governing council of Association of Surgeons of India for two terms and was the Hon Treasurer for two years. He was the chairman of the state unit of the ASI and also the president of the Surgical Society of Bangalore.He became the examiner for Royal Colleges in 2005 and is the one of the few from overseas to be included in the panel of examiners for FRCS International.
He has conducted many workshops and teaching programs and contributed chapters in various surgical books and journals. He is married to Jaya and has two daughters.
