Livingstone Fellowship launched

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow with Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and Faculties in Scotland are delighted to call for applications to the Livingstone Fellowship.

Funded by the Scottish Government, the Livingstone Fellowship aims to support physicians and surgeons in training from Malawi and Zambia to undertake a year’s speciality training in the Scottish National Health Service. Dr Natasha Igwira is our current Livingstone Scholar and she is spending a year with us as a Senior Clinical Fellow in General Surgery at Inverclyde Royal Hospital and Royal Alexandra Hospital, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.

To be eligible, you must be Malawian and Zambian physicians and surgeons in the equivalent of Speciality Training Years 3 – 7. Applicants must be in residence and practise in Malawi or Zambia and be committed to bringing the knowledge and experience of their Fellowship back to their home country. Successful applicants will be sponsored for the UK’s General Medical Council Register of Licensed Practitioners and must demonstrate continuity of practice for 3 of the last 5 years and all of the last 12 months.
Successful applicants will be awarded a bursary to cover costs associated with travel, registrations, and visa and relocation costs up to the value of £4500.

During the period of the Fellowship the successful applicants will be in receipt of a UK sterling salary commensurate to their Scottish Counterparts.

Fellows will be asked to repay 50% of the value of the bursary during the 12 months of the Fellowship.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to skype interviews in the week starting 10 December. The earliest placement for successful candidates will be April 2019.

The closing date is 30th November 2018
