We are relieved at the outcome of discussions between the Department of Health and the BMA, which we hope will lead to a collaborative agreement on junior doctors' contracts that recognises their central role in patient care and the future of the NHS.
Within the proposed timetable for discussions, the BMA has agreed to temporarily suspend proposed strike action and the Department of Health has agreed to temporarily suspend implementation of a contract without agreement.
We reiterate that although our College is based in Scotland, many of our Fellows and Members work in England and we will continue to fully support them.
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow has been active in discussions through the UK Academy and directly with the UK Department of Health in support of our Junior Colleagues and will continue to contribute through all available channels towards resolution of the dispute.
