Global Citizenship Conference

  • In June 2018 we launched the NHS Scotland Global Citizenship Programme. The main aim of the programme is to encourage, support and nationally co-ordinate NHS Scotland staff and volunteers involvement in global health work. The Programme also aims to fulfil our international development commitment to our partner countries as set out in the Scottish Government International Development Strategy. A key tenet of that Strategy is to work in partnership with our partner countries, to harness and encourage the best of Scottish and in-country expertise in key areas like health that can benefit global development.

Global citizenship is our national core value. The valuable work our NHS Scotland staff and volunteers are involved in, not only helps to reduce common challenges such as disease epidemics but also provides mutual learning opportunities which produces a more reinvigorated skilful workface.

With increased exposure to differing healthcare environments comes a greater understanding and creativity in solving problems.

    Aims/Objectives of Conference

This is the first national event for the NHS Scotland Global Citizenship Programme designed to bring those working in healthcare from across NHS Scotland and its partners to share in developments and best practice in global health work. The Conference is being delivered in partnership with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG) who published “Global Citizenship in Scottish Health Service” in 2017.

The key aims of the Conference are to:

    • promote the Scottish NHS Global Citizenship Programme
    • showcase relevant work
    • foster networking of those involved
    • deliver workshops in areas which will facilitate this work
    • ensure effective Global Citizenship work by maintenance and raising of standards
    • create and share energy around the Global Citizenship Programme
