This interactive, practical course provides an introduction to specific surgical conditions required in the early stages of Foundation Training. Participants will have the opportunity to learn the fundamental principles of safe surgical practice within a controlled workshop environment. This course teaches and assesses the ability of trainees to recognise, manage and refer appropriately common surgical conditions.
The Instructional Course will consist of plenary lectures, topical surgery lectures and small group case based discussions.
The short lectures will be followed by an active discussion. The participants will acquire the basic knowledge in advance allowing a more informed discussion. The role of Faculty will be as a Facilitator.
There then will be Case Based Discussions in small groups. The topics are considered critical conditions in the Foundation curriculum so trainees must demonstrate that they can recognise and refer appropriately. The role of the Faculty is not as purveyors of information but assessors of learning. Delegates will have the opportunity to gain up to 5 CBDs by being submitted to the Faculty for validation in your Horus e-portfolio.
