  • A leadership course delivered in partnership with the Faculty of Medical Leadership and management designed for experienced consultants.

Doctors taking on definitive leadership roles for the first time often find themselves exposed to challenges for which they have little preparation. The modern world which medical leaders must navigate to be successful is often described as volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA). This requires very different skills to the more familiar clinical leadership skills; indeed, it has been argued that the highly focused skills required of the clinical expert can be counterproductive when leading organisations or systems. Therefore, many doctors occupying hybrid clinical and leadership roles must learn to operate successfully and simultaneously in two very different worlds.

In an intensive two day programme, participants will gain significant insights into how healthcare operates at an organisational and systems level. They will also gain an in depth understanding of their own leadership, how that impacts upon their role and how they may enhance their personal effectiveness.
