  • This half-day course aims to develop participants’ understanding of current thinking on learning in the workplace and focuses directly on the nature and distinctive characteristics of the clinical learning environment. Drawing on relevant theoretical perspectives on situated and active learning, it will ask participants to reflect on their own experiences as learners and/or trainers. It will then enable them to identify ways in which the learning environment can be enhanced to maximize the positive outcomes of each learning experience for all those involved, and will contribute to their continuing professional development as trainers.

By the end of this programme, participants will be able to:

    • Articulate current thinking in medical education regarding workplace learning and the clinical learning environment
    • Explain how different members of the clinical workplace can contribute to clinical learning
    • Analyse and evaluate their own workplace as a clinical learning environment
    • Identify ways in which their clinical learning environment can be enhanced to maximise benefits of the learner experience
